November In-Person Lunch & Learn: Education Policy and Policymaking
Join FUEL on November 10th at 12:15pm (note the new time!) at the ISU Research Park Economic Development Core Facility Executive Boardroom (2nd floor) for our Lunch & Learn with State Senator Herman Quirmbach, who will discuss several recent education policy decisions and the processes that led to them. The areas may include, as time permits, school and university finance, K-12 school reform, and diversity.
Herman Quirmbach was elected in 2018 to his fifth term in the Iowa Senate. He represents Senate District 23, which includes Ames and Kelley as well as Grant, Milford, and Washington Townships in Story County. Senator Quirmbach serves on several committees, including as Ranking Member of Education, and on a variety of commissions and boards. Herman received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government with honors from Harvard University in 1972 and Masters (1980) and PhD (1983) degrees in Economics from Princeton University. He served for 29 years as an economics professor at Iowa State University. He also served on the Ames City Council from 1995 through 2003 and was Ames Mayor Pro Tem in 2002.
